WHAT IS HIP?

HIP stands for the Healthy Incentives Program, which is available to everyone who receives SNAP benefits in the state of Massachusetts, and does not require an additional sign up.

HIP puts money back on your EBT card* when you use SNAP to buy healthy, local fruits and vegetables from HIP farm vendors.

*up to a monthly cap of $40, $60, or $80 depending on the size of your household

While not all farm vendors accept HIP Riquezas del Campo Cooperative farm is proud to accept both SNAP and HIP benefits!

When you're using HIP to purchase produce, make sure you still have SNAP funds available. The amount of SNAP funds you have available on your card is the amount of funds you can put towards HIP purchases.

For example, if you have $60 of HIP for the month, but only $20 of SNAP, you will need to run transactions for HIP that are <$20 each time, but you can run these transactions three times, to use up the full $60 of HIP funds.

HIP will put the SNAP dollars you spend on HIP produce back onto your EBT card instantly. Once the money has been put back on your EBT card, you can spend it at any SNAP retailer like always.

With HIP funds, you can buy any variety of fruits and vegetables sold by HIP vendors are eligible for HIP, as long as they do not contain added salt, sugar, fat or oil.

Eligible HIP products include fruits and vegetables that are:

  • Fresh

  • Canned

  • Dried

  • Frozen

  • In seed/seedling form
